Your time is precious – stop wasting it!

We all have the same 24 hours in our day. It’s the time it takes for a single rotation of the Earth (give or take). So why do so many of us feel like we need more of it? How can we best utilise our time to maximise our output?

With so much to achieve in any given day it’s hard to know where you will find the time to get it all done. So, here are some pointers on how to save yourself time so you can do more of the things that you need to get done in order to scale…

1. Stop doing things you’re no good at or that don’t play to the strengths of your agency/team.

It can be hard to take a step back and list all the things you are good at vs those you are bad at. However, in order to do more of the things you can do well, thereby maximising your efforts and time, you need to do a self-audit of you and your team’s strengths and weaknesses.

Once you have a list of all your strengths and weaknesses look for patterns and use outsourcing to ship out the stuff you don’t or can’t do well. You’ll find you suddenly have a lot more time as an agency and team.

2. Putting off tasks you dislike is no good for you, your team or your agency.

It’s typical human nature to put off the things we dread, but we know they need to be done at some point. You know the ones. Those pesky tasks that make us resent our clients and maybe even our success as an agency.

You can put things off for the short-term but eventually they will have an impact on your marketing agency and will need addressing. Clients will start chasing and eventually you’ll have a real headache on your hands, or worse; start losing clients.

Outsourcing saves you spending too much time on something you don’t enjoy thereby creating more time for you to spend on the things you do enjoy! In what other circumstance do you get to do JUST the things you love? Unless you can just plug the hole with more staff, but not everyone can afford staff. Therefore outsourcing is a great solution.

3. You should be running or improving your marketing agency.

When you’re trying to scale your marketing agency you need all the hours in the day. Taking on new disciplines, wearing more hats and spending less and less time on your agency results in scaling taking a backseat.

By outsourcing to the experts you free yourself up to scale and improve your marketing agency.

4. Your marketing agency is best suited to its core services, not designing or building websites.

Your marketing agency have a selection of core services that you offer to businesses to help promote them and drive new opportunities their way. This is what you are best at, what you love doing and why you started your agency in the first place. By using your time more effectively you and your team can save yourself a bucket load of time and stress.

That “easy enough” design and build phase is most definitely best left to the experts. For a novice you can quickly lose hours and have very little to show for your efforts.

Or, you can choose to outsource this phase to a partner who knows exactly what they’re doing, while you concentrate on creating the content for the website. This will take the stress off you and your team and reduce the risk of burnout. There is nothing worse than the frustration of biting off more than you can chew and eventually disappointing your client.

5. Deliver the best value to your clients, whilst further developing your core skills and levelling up your team.

If you’ve followed these pointers you will have at least a basic understanding of what you and your team are great at. You will also likely have a list of things you can do well, but could do much better. Things you enjoy but could improve.

Don’t spend those precious hours of personal and team development on new skills that you aren’t best suited for, and instead pick your existing skills and make them the best in the industry. Become the go-to marketing agency by levelling up your team!

6. Don’t be stubborn – stop doing what you hate.

If none of the above has sunk in yet, though I really hope it has, consider this. If you find that you can’t stand part of what you do it is definitely time to either trim the fat (stop doing that thing) or outsource it.

Someone experienced is likely to get the job done in half the time because they love and understand it. Think how many hours a day you could save if you outsourced the time-consuming tasks and the tasks you hate!


In order to grow your marketing agency you need to have the time to take a step back and see the overall picture; to be able to look at what’s working, what isn’t, and make a plan for future growth. Getting weighed down in the day to day stuff can prevent you from actually scaling your business.

Think of your most time-consuming task and ask yourself what else you could be doing if you didn’t have that task on your plate? Would it free you up to seek out new opportunities, form new strategies and scale your agency at last?

Start respecting your time as the valuable asset it is and make every second count.
